Wrinkle Relaxers

What Are Wrinkle Relaxers?

BOTOX® is the most commonly known brand of injectable medicine used by many medical professionals to relax wrinkles to provide a more youthful look to women and men. There are many brands of purified botulinum toxin type A that are used for aesthetic injections. Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. When used in minimal and controlled doses, botulinum toxin can be used as a medication to paralyze muscle activity temporarily.

Cosmetic injections are commonly used to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face, particularly around the eyes and forehead. When injected into the targeted muscles, these toxins block the signals that cause the muscles to contract, resulting in a smoother and more youthful appearance.

The toxin is also used for therapeutic purposes to treat various medical conditions, including muscle spasms, excessive sweating, chronic migraines, and overactive bladder.

Aesthetic injections are a safe, effective treatment for wrinkles.

Aesthetic injections can be a safe and effective treatment for wrinkles when administered by Dr. Barlow, who holds a specialty training certification in aesthetic treatments. The treatment works by temporarily paralyzing the targeted facial muscles, which can result in a smoother and more youthful appearance.

It is essential to note that aesthetic injections have potential risks and side effects like any medical procedure. Common side effects may include temporary bruising, redness, or swelling at the injection site. More severe side effects can occur in rare cases, such as drooping eyelids or eyebrows, double vision, or difficulty swallowing.

Before undergoing any medical procedure, discussing the potential risks and benefits with Dr. Barlow is essential to determine the right choice of treatment for you. Dr. Barlow and the FMCC team will also assess your medical history, medications, and allergies to ensure injections are a safe and appropriate treatment option.

Treatments are non-invasive and require little recovery time.

BOTOX® and other wrinkle-relaxing injections are a type of outpatient procedure that is non-invasive, meaning that there is no need for surgery or general anesthesia. This treatment allows patients to receive injections and continue their regular daily routine. The procedure is relatively quick and straightforward and requires little preparation.

After the injection, patients are advised to avoid rubbing or massaging the area that has been treated to prevent the toxin from spreading to other parts of the face or body. While some patients may notice results within the first 24 hours, most people can expect to see a noticeable difference in their appearance within just a few days after injection with the max effect occurring around 2 weeks.

It is important to note that one time Botox or other injection is not a permanent solution, and follow-up injections are typically needed to maintain results. The frequency of these injections can vary based on the individual patient and the severity of their wrinkles or other conditions being treated.
